Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of mdtools.app. By using the service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. We've tried to keep this straightforward and honest rather than hiding anything behind dense legal language.

The service

mdtools.app provides free online tools for converting PDF and document files to Markdown and related formats. The service is provided free of charge with no registration required for basic use.

We reserve the right to change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time without prior notice. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes, but cannot guarantee this.

Acceptable use

You may use mdtools.app for personal, academic, and commercial purposes. In return, you agree not to:

• Upload files that contain illegal content, including material that infringes copyright, constitutes child sexual abuse material, or is otherwise prohibited by applicable law.
• Attempt to abuse or circumvent rate limits, upload quotas, or other technical controls.
• Use automated scripts or bots to submit conversions at scale in a way that degrades service for other users.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, probe, or attack the service infrastructure.
• Upload files containing malware, exploits, or content designed to harm our systems or other users.

We reserve the right to block access to the service for users who violate these terms.

Rate limits

To keep the service fast and fair for everyone, we apply rate limits on file uploads and conversions. These limits are applied per IP address. If you hit a limit, you will receive an error message and can try again after a short wait. If you have a legitimate high-volume use case, contact us at contact@mdtools.app to discuss your needs.

File processing and retention

Files you upload are used solely to perform the conversion you requested. They are deleted automatically within 15 minutes of upload and are never stored permanently. See our Privacy Policy for the full details on how files are handled.

You retain full ownership of any files you upload and the Markdown output produced from them. By uploading a file, you confirm that you have the right to do so.

No warranty

mdtools.app is provided “as is” without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantee that the service will be available without interruption, that conversions will be error-free, or that the output will meet your specific requirements.

Conversion quality depends on the structure and content of the source document. Scanned PDFs, image-heavy documents, or files with complex layouts may produce imperfect Markdown. Always review the output before use in production workflows.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Dutch law, mdtools.app and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of business, or loss of profits. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim — which, for the free service, is zero.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of mdtools.app shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of mdtools.app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
